Building a Good Website:

  When it comes to a great website, layout and simplicity are key.  If the website take a long time to load or is confusing to navigate, your user will likely stray before ever looking into your page.  Simplicity is also key when trying to get your site listed with Search Engines.  Check out our SEO Tips page for more on search engine indexing. 

  Make sure to choose colors that are calm or go well together.  If your site is meant to be fun and crazy, fun colors are great... just make sure they don't clash or cause eye strain when trying to read your text.   Also be sure that you use images and photos in small portions.  Typically two or three per page is more than enough.  Images cause your page to load slower as well as take up space. 

  Templates are a great way to start, however a majority of them are built using images as text.  Search engines can not pick up on text images (logos etc).   So making the key terms on your page images is tricky and typically bad.  However you can pick a template apart and use only what you want.  It's a good place to start for color and page layout ideas.

  Content, content, content!  If your website does not provide good information, it is not going to be popular.  Shoot for at least 5-6 pages for a first website.  If this is for a personal business, a mission statement goes a long way in today's marketplace.  Share a little about yourself and your company.
